FOMC minutes and the futures markets

The Fed considered making a change, but didn'tThe release of FOMC minutes (basically a transcript of the discussions that took place in the most recent Fed meeting), can't get much more boring than they were today.  There are days the minutes trigger nearly as much volatility than the actual FOMC meeting; obviously, this wasn't one of those occasions. The Fed minutes were exactly as most expected them to be.  All but one member supported the end of the quantitative easing program.  Further,…See More

EXPIRATION DRIVING PRICES

This week's monthly expiration of options appears to be driving prices higher due to some short covering. SPX and DJIA broke to new all-time highs Tuesday and above recent building resistance, but the advance was on low volume. We believe this to be more position adjustments than accumulation. In the meantime, yesterday we published an idea on LOW, and that stock is sharply higher following their earnings report this morning. Want more ideas? Donning our war hats, as we store physical Silver, Gold, and Crypto’s

Time to don the war hats as we watch the currency wars expand as the US Dollar’s overseas support mechanism weakens with the trade at 87.675,  up only 3 points inside a tight trading range between a high of 87.85 and it’s low so far at 87.645.   Treasuries are still weaker across the board as we feel it’s only a matter of time before the plug gets pulled on its support.   We still feel the “weirdest spike in history” back on Oct 15th,  has meaning but is yet to be explained which will portend…See More

Checking Up On Alibaba Using Technical Analysis

BABA Two Months Old Has Sufficient Data For Short Term TradesAll IPOs require at least 2 months of data to have enough price and volume for technical traders to study. What we see in the Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. (NYSE:BABA) chart below is a stock that based for the first month, started moving up in late October, rested for a few days, and then moved up quickly with a momentum run ahead of its Earnings Report release. Since the release, the stock has stalled and is sideways again.…See More

PARTY AT THE PUMP

Energy prices continue to drop with Brent Crude falling below the $80/barrel threshold to a new four year low. Consumers are having a party at the pump. Last week we paid $2.47/gallon for regular at our favorite Costco in Edison, NJ. Tomorrow the government will report Advanced Retail Sales, and several retailers will report earnings over the next few days, as consumer gear up for the start of the holiday shopping season.See More
